Cropredy FC made the journey to Wallingford for their last fixture before half-term. It was a sunny but cold morning, and the pitch was in poor condition, which was going to make playing good football a challenge.

Wallingford kicked off, but Cropredy started the game well, quickly winning the ball back and putting the opposition under pressure.

Wallingford struggled to get out of their own half as Cropredy pressed high, won their tackles and created chance after chance. With the pressure Cropredy were applying, it felt like it was only a matter of time before the first goal arrived.

Cropredy were firmly in control, and the breakthrough came when the ball was crossed into the box, only for a Wallingford player to handle it. Arlo stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom-right corner to make it 1-0 to Cropredy!

Cropredy continued to win their tackles and move the ball around well. Their passing was excellent, and it was this good football that led to the second goal. Remi received a pass from Alek, held the ball up brilliantly, turned his defender and rifled a fantastic shot into the top-left corner to make it 2-0!

Cropredy were flying, with the passing flowing and attack after attack causing Wallingford problems.

The third goal soon followed when Arlo broke free after receiving a brilliant through ball from Remi. Arlo drove towards goal and confidently struck the ball past the right-hand side of the keeper to make it 3-0 to Cropredy!

Cropredy could have added more goals before half-time, but the Wallingford goalkeeper made some good saves to keep the score down.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with Cropredy dominating possession and creating more chances.

Wallingford’s biggest opportunity came when they crossed the ball into the box and one of their players was left with a free header. The header was on target, but Joseph Ellis reacted brilliantly, getting across his goal and tipping the ball over the bar. It was an excellent save at a crucial moment, preventing Wallingford from getting back into the game.

Cropredy continued to create chances but unfortunately couldn’t convert any more of them.

Final score: Wallingford FC 0–3 Cropredy FC.

Man of the Match: Joseph E πŸ†

This was a difficult decision today, with three players in contention: Arlo, Alan and Joseph Ellis.

In the end, Joseph Ellis took the award for his outstanding save to tip the header over the bar. Had that gone in, it could have given Wallingford a little hope of getting back into the match.

Joseph also showed good distribution throughout the game, finding his teammates with some excellent passes and remaining alert whenever he was needed.

Well done, Joseph! Keep training hard and playing well. πŸ‘

    Match Review

After our slow start on Saturday, it was great to see the players start this game so well. Cropredy pressed the opposition, looked for the forward pass and worked hard to win the ball back quickly whenever possession was lost.

The passing and movement were excellent at times, and the players showed great confidence going forward. The only downside was that we couldn’t add to our tally in the second half, despite creating some more good chances.

The players deserve a lot of credit for the way they performed today, especially considering the poor condition of the pitch.

This was a well-deserved victory and a great way to finish before half-term.

Well done to all the players! Let’s keep progressing, keep working hard and, most importantly, keep believing in ourselves.

Cropredy FC had the pleasure of welcoming Hanney FC on a sunny Sunday morning.

Hanney kicked off and looked to launch an early attack, but Cropredy won the ball back and quickly took control of the game.

Cropredy began to put Hanney under pressure, forcing them to defend and creating a number of chances. Unfortunately, the finishing touch was missing, and those chances went begging. With the pressure Cropredy were applying, surely it was only a matter of time before they took the lead.

14 minutes into the first half, Cropredy finally broke the deadlock! Alek delivered a great cross into the box, where Ayo rose above the defender to power a header into the back of the net and make it 1-0! βš½πŸ‘

Hanney struggled to create any clear-cut chances, while Cropredy remained in control and comfortably saw out the first half.

Cropredy knew they needed a second goal to give themselves some breathing space and started the second half with positive, attacking football.

Once again, Cropredy created chance after chance, but unfortunately, the finishing let them down. Hanney struggled to cause any real problems, with Cropredy dominating the midfield, winning the ball back and continually looking to create opportunities.

However, as we have seen in previous matches, Cropredy couldn’t capitalise on their chances to put the game beyond reach.

Despite the missed opportunities, Cropredy remained in control and saw out the remainder of the second half comfortably to secure another victory.

Full-time: Cropredy FC 1-0 Hanney FC βš½πŸ‘

    Review

Another good performance from the players, who controlled the game and limited Hanney to very few opportunities.

Once again, we are creating plenty of chances, which is a real positive, but we need to start converting them and putting games to bed earlier. Against stronger opposition, failing to take those opportunities could eventually cost us.

Overall, a good performance with plenty of positives to take away, but there are still areas where we need to improve.

⭐ Man of the Match: Calvin

Calvin defended superbly throughout the game. He was confident bringing the ball out from the back and looking to build attacks, while always making sure he got back into position to make important tackles.

He rarely gave the ball away when passing to his teammates and showed great composure in possession.

A well-deserved Man of the Match!

Well done, Calvin, and well done to all the players! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»βš½

    Cropredy FC 5–0 Wantage FC

Cropredy FC had the pleasure of playing in the sunshine today against Wantage FC on a 4G pitch.

First of all, I would like to thank Mark Snelling for running the line today. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Wantage had kick-off and attacked straight away, which caught Cropredy out. However, that was their only real attack of the game, as Cropredy quickly grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and started to stamp their authority on the match.

Cropredy carried on from where they left off in Saturday’s game, dominating the match, creating chances, winning tackles and putting Wantage under constant pressure.

Cropredy were in full control, and with the amount of chances being created, surely it was only a matter of time before the first goal came.

And that time came from a corner. Alek delivered the ball into the box and Theo, arriving at the back post, bravely headed the ball into the net to make it 0–1.

Cropredy quickly won the ball back again and it wasn’t long before the ball was in the back of the net for a second time. Ayo broke free, rounded the keeper and calmly finished to make it 0–2.

Cropredy were winning the midfield battle comfortably and, once again, it was Ayo’s pace that caused problems for the Wantage defence. He beat the defence and finished to make it 0–3.

The confidence flowing through the team was growing with every minute, while Wantage struggled to create any real attacks, with Cropredy closing them down, winning their tackles and giving them very little time on the ball.

The fourth goal came from Max, who showed great confidence as he dribbled past three players before calmly slotting the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. 0–4!

At half-time, Cropredy had a clear message: learn from the mistake against Grove, when we were 3–0 up at half-time but allowed them back into the game before eventually losing on penalties.

Cropredy weren’t going to let that happen again.

The second half started with Cropredy taking the game straight back to Wantage. The players knew they had a lead they didn’t want to let slip, and they continued to dominate the game.

Cropredy passed the ball around with confidence and ease, and it was that type of football that led to the fifth goal.

The ball fell to Francis, who smashed his first-ever goal for Cropredy into the top-right corner. What a way to open your account! 0–5! πŸ‘πŸ»βš½

Cropredy were flying and, to be fair, could easily have added another four goals. The Wantage keeper pulled off some very good saves to prevent Cropredy from reaching double figures.

Final score: Wantage FC 0–5 Cropredy FC

    ⭐ MOM – Ayo & Theo ⭐

Today I have decided to give the Man of the Match award to two players.

Ayo ran the Wantage defence all over the place with his pace and movement. He missed a number of chances, but his head never dropped. He kept going and going and was eventually rewarded with two goals. That shows great character.

Theo caused Wantage no end of problems down the right wing. He was always looking to get the ball into the box and was a constant threat. He also showed great bravery with his header at the back post to start the goal fest.

Well done to both players β€” keep pushing yourselves! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

    πŸ“ Review

Cropredy were really good today, especially with their shape and discipline.

They won their tackles with determination, closed the opposition down extremely well and created chance after chance.

They could easily have won this game 10–0, but the Wantage keeper made some excellent saves to keep the score down.

Most importantly, they looked like a proper team today. The players worked for each other, played with confidence and showed great determination from the first whistle to the last.

This result will give the players a huge amount of belief, and hopefully this can be the start of a really good run of wins.

Well done to every single player today. Keep working hard, keep believing and keep pushing yourselves.

Cropredy FC U12 – Match Report

First of all, a massive thank you to everyone who helped out today β€” from selling refreshments and helping with the setup to running the line. Your support is really appreciated and helps make matchdays possible.

Today, Cropredy FC welcomed Summertown for our latest league fixture.

Cropredy started the game really well and dominated the opening 15 minutes. We created several good chances and could, and probably should, have been 3–0 up within the first 10 minutes, but unfortunately our finishing let us down.

Then came a turning point in the game. Summertown were awarded a penalty following what looked to us like a questionable handball decision. They converted the penalty, and from that moment the game changed completely.

The goal gave Summertown confidence and put a real spring in their step. They started pushing forward more, and for the final 10 minutes of the first half Cropredy struggled to contain them. We lost our shape and our composure, which allowed Summertown to put us under increasing pressure.

The second half started positively, but we were perhaps trying too hard to get that equaliser. As a result, our shape began to disappear and our passing became poorer. We started looking for the long ball too often, which made it easier for Summertown to regain possession or for the ball to run out of play.

Unfortunately, Summertown went on to score two more goals, as well as being awarded another penalty after a last-ditch challenge went wrong and the Summertown player was brought down.

In the end, Cropredy battled and never stopped trying, but once again our inability to take the chances we created cost us.

⭐ Man of the Match – Nathan

Nathan worked extremely hard today and passed the ball well throughout the game. Well done, Nathan β€” keep it up!

    πŸ”Ž Match Review

There are plenty of things for us to learn from today.

We started the game really well, but we need to become more accurate in front of goal. We have now played three league matches and scored just one goal. That’s something we need to address.

The positive is that we are creating chances. We just need to start converting them.

We also need to work on playing the ball through the thirds more and resist the temptation to go long too often. The long ball makes it too easy for the opposition to regain possession, whereas keeping the ball and playing through the thirds gives us a much better opportunity to build attacks.

The refereeing today was frustrating at times, but that’s something we can’t control. What we can control is how we react and how we play.

One positive is that we’re becoming more physical and battling harder, which is good to see. Now we need to combine that with better ball retention and composure.

This is another new learning curve for the boys, and today’s game has certainly given me plenty to think about and plenty of things to work on with the team.

Every difficult game and every defeat gives us another opportunity to learn, improve and become stronger going forward.

Heads up, boys. Keep working, keep learning and keep pushing forward.

    Grove FC U12 3–3 Cropredy FC U12

    Grove win 4–3 on penalties

Cropredy FC travelled to Grove for their U12 cup game, knowing this was going to be a big test. Grove U12 play in the C League, so we knew from the start that we were going to face a tough match.

The first 10 minutes saw Cropredy finding their feet. The players looked a little nervous, particularly when defending, but slowly they began to grow in confidence.

That confidence exploded when Cropredy took the lead, with a little help from Lady Luck! Remie put a cross into the box which struck the underside of the crossbar before bouncing down and over the line to make it 0–1.

Suddenly, you could see the whole team believing in themselves. The passing became more purposeful and Cropredy started to knock the ball around really well.

Within five minutes, Remie was involved again. He picked up the ball, drove forward, saw his opportunity and struck a fantastic shot which flew into the back of the net to make it 0–2.

Cropredy were now dominating the game and playing with real confidence. Jace broke free down the left, cut inside and got a shot away. The Grove goalkeeper made the save but could only parry the ball into the path of Ayo, who made no mistake and finished well to put Cropredy 0–3 up.

At half-time, we knew Grove would come out strongly and we spoke to the players about being ready for the pressure.

    And that’s exactly what happened.

Within just two minutes of the second half, Grove scored to make it 1–3.

Cropredy then struggled to win the midfield battle and began to find it difficult defensively. Grove kept applying pressure and eventually found their second goal to make it 2–3.

The momentum had completely shifted. Grove were now controlling the midfield, keeping the pressure on and causing Cropredy plenty of problems. We struggled to deal with it and Grove eventually found an equaliser to make it 3–3.

Cropredy made some changes to try to regain control of the game, and it worked. We started to get a grip of the midfield again and began creating chances.

We had opportunities to win the game, including two really good chances, but our decision-making let us down at times. We tried to run with the ball when an earlier shot or pass may have been the better option, allowing Grove to get back and make the tackle.

Despite the late pressure, neither team could find the winning goal.

    Full-time: Grove 3–3 Cropredy

    That meant penalties.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for Cropredy as Grove eventually won the shootout 4–3 on penalties.

⭐ Man of the Match – Remie

This was an extremely difficult decision because I thought every player gave so much today. In the end, we voted for Remie.

Two goals obviously played a big part, but it was also his strength, his work on the ball and the way he is starting to show just how much he can bring to the team that stood out.

Well done, Remie β€” keep believing in yourself!

    πŸ—£οΈ Today’s 3 Cs

Today we worked on our 3 Cs:

Communication – Always give information to your teammates and call for the ball when you’re in space.

Challenge – Win your tackles and be strong when challenging for the ball.

Courage – Don’t be afraid of the opposition and don’t be scared to take risks.

I thought we did all three of these things really well today.

    πŸ’™ Final Thoughts

I was so proud of the players today. They showed so many positive things throughout the game and, most importantly, you can really start to see the improvement after just two games of playing 9v9.

We will learn from the start of the second half and understand how we can manage those periods of pressure better going forward.

Losing on penalties is obviously disappointing, but there is so much for this team to be proud of.

Really well done today to every single player. Keep believing, keep learning and let’s keep pushing forward! πŸ’™βš½

    First Competitive 9v9 Match

Today, Cropredy FC travelled to Benson for their first competitive 9v9 match at U12 level.

It was a warm Sunday morning, and the pitch was rock hard and very bumpy. However, the main thing was that the players were excited and looking forward to getting their first competitive game underway.

As the match kicked off, you could see the nerves running through the Cropredy team. They struggled to get used to the difficult pitch conditions and, for the first 10 minutes, Benson put them under pressure. However, Cropredy handled the early pressure well and defended strongly.

As the first half went on, Cropredy started to grow in confidence. They began passing the ball better and created the best chances of the half. On another day, they could have gone into half-time with a deserved lead.

The second half started in a similar way, with Cropredy defending well for the opening 10 minutes and not really giving Benson any clear-cut chances.

Cropredy then started to push forward and created a few opportunities of their own, although nothing that was completely clear-cut. Both teams worked hard and, for large periods of the game, cancelled each other out.

In the end, the referee blew the final whistle with the match finishing as a stalemate.

    Man of the Match: Alan

Alan was solid at the back throughout the game. He helped his teammates with some excellent covering when they were under pressure or made a mistake and put in a strong defensive performance.

    Review

Cropredy did really well today. They battled for everything and, at times, passed the ball around very well.

We did get caught offside too many times, but that is something the players will learn from. As they continue playing 9v9 football, they will start to understand the importance of timing their runs better.

Our ball control was not at its best today, but in fairness, the bumpy and rock-hard pitch made it difficult for both teams to get the ball under control.

Overall, the players did really well. To come away with a result from their first competitive 9v9 match is a positive start, and there were plenty of encouraging signs to take from the performance.

Well done, everyone, and see you all at training! βš½πŸ‘
